The general practitioner and Naturopath has a private practice in Bad Homburg. Here she will advise you.

SUN ALLERGY: GET YOUR SKIN SLOWLY TO THE SUN

For the summer I plan with my family a beach holiday in Turkey. Unfortunately, my wife has a sun allergy. On the other hand, do you have an effective recipe?

Martin G. (38), Bergisch-Gladbach

    Reply from Dr. Bracht:

The most important thing is to get used to the sun at home, before exposing yourself to the intense southern sunlight. Tans in the early and late times of the day and do not use sunscreen, as these too can cause skin rashes like a sun allergy. Put off your clothes so that the skin gets a chance that the sun has not seen this year. Healthy fresh foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, good fats with omega-3 fatty acids are indispensable as a proper diet for a healthy skin. Also micronutrients such as beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, selenium and the provitamin Q10 should not be missing in this sun allergy-preventive diet.

NECK PAIN: GENTLE THE MUSCLES REMOVE BRINGS RELIEF

I am a pensioner and have suffered from neck pain for a while now. My neck is stiff, I can not turn my head. Do I have to live with it now?

      Hildegard S. (66), Munich

        Reply from Dr. Bracht

Because of our frequent sitting, most people get used to a damaging position of the head, where the cervical spine is overstretched. This overstrains the neck muscles. This shortens more and more. The result is that the mobility is limited, the neck feels stiff. Reasonably, you can only resolve this by stretching the muscles in a healthy way. But never strengthen it! This is how it works: Bend your head down while sitting, until it pulls comfortably on the neck. Stay for two minutes and repeat this several times a day. Then pay attention to a good posture with as straight as possible a cervical spine. This prevents new tension.

        HEART CREW VESSELS: MEASURING HOMOCYSTEIN!

My wife is suffering from a constriction of the coronary arteries. In this context, I read something about homocysteine again and again. What do you think?

          Heiner P. (62), Freiburg

            Reply from Dr. Bracht:

Homocysteine is an important laboratory value for me, which I have determined for all my patients over 40 years. Increasing the risk of vascular damage can lead to cardiovascular diseases like your wife's. The reason for a high content of homocysteine is a deficiency of vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid. If this deficiency is corrected by medication, the homocysteine value usually returns to normal. Researchers assume that even existing damage to the blood vessels can be reversed by adequate supply of the vitamins mentioned.

            YOUR RIGHT AS A PATIENT

What does the cashier pay? When am I entitled to compensation? Good, if you know his right

            DENTIST HAS EXPLANATION OF OBLIGATION

My left wisdom tooth ached and my dentist pulled it immediately. This is a week ago, since then the left side feels numb. Can a nerve have been damaged here?

              Susanne F., Landau

Depending on the location of a tooth, the nerve can be injured. Your dentist should inform you about this in advance and if necessary make x-rays. If he has not done that, the duty to inform is violated and he is liable for damages. (OLG Koblenz, Az. 5 U 41/03)

                CARE FORCE MUST TAKE TIME

My mother came to a nursing home. Now she drinks little and it looks like she is physically and mentally degrading.

                  Veronika K., Dessau

Not infrequently it happens that nursing home residents also show signs of deficiency due to dehydration. It is often difficult for nurses to persuade unwilling elderly patients to drink and eat. In principle, caregivers have to take their time and make sure that the residents drink and eat properly. Because of my back pain I went on my own to the massage. Now the cashier does not want to reimburse me for the costs.

For massages against back problems, you should have your doctor issue a prescription. Massages are remedies that must be prescribed by the doctor. Otherwise you have no claim to reimbursement by the health insurance. In general, the doctor may prescribe massages if they are alleviating a disease or its associated condition. Talk to your doctor.
