What helps with tinnitus?

Many people suffer from tinnitus - a whistling, humming or ringing in the ear. Nobody else hears the sound. Just switch off? Wrong! But where does it come from then, the "ringing in the ear", so the Latin translation of the medical term "tinnitus"? Researchers have now discovered how ringing occurs. And how they might be able to heal soon.

Who suffers from tinnitus, takes a "ringing in the ear" was, without a noise is present. They make the comparison to the "phantom pain" - a pain that you feel, for example, in the leg, although this has already been removed.

Researchers were able to pinpoint an area in the brain that plays a crucial role in the development of tinnitus or phantom pain. Scientists call this area "gatekeeper syndrome". As soon as the "gatekeeper syndrome" no longer works normally, ie it is affected by damage, this influences the information flow in the brain. The result: a ringing sound in continuous loop. Thanks to this knowledge, the researchers hope to find a healing method soon.
