skin diseases

It is one of the most unpleasant and puzzling skin diseases: hives . Out of nowhere, the violently itchy red wheals suddenly appear on the skin. When searching for the causes of hives, doctors are constantly faced with the same problem: unfortunately, dozens of triggers come into question - in some cases, even several act simultaneously. And: they can be completely different. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, cold, heat, light, medicines and certain foods - the determination is so severe that the trigger remains unclear in about half of all cases. Nevertheless, the rash can be treated well.

Relieve discomfort with cold

In acute cases often helps against the intense itching a cooling pad: beat in a cloth and hang on the affected areas for about 20 minutes. Even a bath can relieve the symptoms. Doctors recommend baths with chamomile supplement, horsetail and bran, as well as sulfur, oil and saline baths (additives available in pharmacies).

In case of recurrent seizures, alternating baths can help by strengthening the immune system. Alternately hold your feet in cold (12 to 20 degrees Celsius) and warm (36 to 38 degrees Celsius) water for 20 seconds. Repeat 2 to 3 times a day. If these gentle home remedies do not provide the desired relief, a family doctor - even without determining the cause - prescribe effective medication.

Cure inflammation properly

Hives are a disease in which the defense cells of the skin release the messenger histamine. This substance, which is also in the stinging nettle, causes the strong itching and causes inflammation on the skin: red wheals. So-called antihistamines weaken the effect of histamine and reduce inflammation. In mild cases, usually antihistamine ointments and gels from the pharmacy. In severe cases, in which also eyelids, tongue or even oral mucous membranes can swell, doctors usually prescribe additional cortisone tablets.
