Felt mushroom as a pincushion

  • bubble wrap
  • 50 ml turbo-felt (sufficient for 5 l of felt, from Coats GmbH, about 14 euros)
  • spray bottle
  • Merino wool in red, white and nature (100% virgin wool merino; in 50 g strand; from Coats GmbH;

      4 euros)
    • terry towel
    • Textile glue (haberdashery) or felting needle

    1. Lay out bubble wrap as substrate.

    2. Mix turbo-felter with water according to the package instructions and fill in the spray bottle.

    For the stem:

    3. Pull a 15 cm long strand of white wool four times. Overlay strands and dab together.

    4. Moisten wool with turbo felt.

    5. Roll with light pressure. If the outer wool fibers have slightly matted, increase the pressure and continue to roll.

    6. Press the wet roll dry in a towel.

    7. Cut off the thin ends.

    For the mushroom cap:

    8. Pull merino wool from the red strand and lay it out on an area of ​​approx. 10 x 10 cm, placing 3 fiber layers one above the other and always at a right angle to each other.

    9. Moisten the wool from the inside out with turbo felt. At the same time, work the wool with circular finger movements.

    10. Turn the corners inwards to make a circle.

    11. Turn the circle over and work the reverse side until the correct strength is achieved.

    12. Press dry in the towel.

    For the white dots:

    13. Moisten small amounts of white wool with turbo-felt and roll to small points in the palms.

    For the mushroom base:

    14. Lay light brown wool on several layers of fibers at right angles, spray with turbo-felt and work with circular finger movements until the desired size and strength is achieved. Dry in a towel.

    15. For the sake of simplicity, glue individual parts of the mushroom together with textile glue or use a felting needle to flock dry by moving up and down.
