Krebs: Eight-year-old spends the last few days with his great love
It's a love story so beautiful it breaks our hearts. Because the cancer-stricken David has little time left with his great love.
To find a man for common aging. Almost all of them cherish this desire in their deepest interior. The sooner you meet the love of your life, the more time you have in common, you might think. In one sense, David and Ayla were lucky: in their early elementary years they are sure to have found the great love. But the statement "until death separates us" gets a terribly sad meaning in this case.
David is eight years old and comes from Chesapeake, Virginia. He initially looks like a normal boy who goes to school and likes to play bowling. But David's previous childhood was anything but ordinary. When the doctors first diagnosed with the then two-year-old leukemia, they did not give the boy much time.
Since then, six years, two transplants and four other cancer diagnoses have passed. Without therapy, the doctors gave the eight-year-old in March, only four to six weeks. But David lives. He has repeatedly surpassed the predicted life expectancy. Nevertheless, the forecasts are bad.
David is unusually mature for his age, not only because of his bravery. He is aware of his leukemia, his mortality. But the cancer-stricken boy knows exactly how he wants to spend his last time - at the side of his great love. And she's none other than his seven-year-old classmate Ayla.
At first, his parents are skeptical, but they try to make the last days of their cancerous son as beautiful as possible. At the request of the children they organize a real date - including bowling, flowers and teddy bears - for the newly in love ones. After the meeting all doubts are gone. The strong connection between David and Ayla is undeniable, however unusual love may be in her age.
Ayla knows about the cancer . She knows that their time together is finite. But all that counts for the young couple now is to be happy together the last few weeks.
