The HeForShe campaign

With an impressive speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Emma Watson launched a new campaign for more equality.

Emma Watson is well known for her role as Harry Potter's best friend Hermione Granger. But last weekend, the 24-year-old actress must have ensured that she is now remembered as an impressive speaker and champion of gender equality .

On September 20, Emma Watson gave an inspirational speech at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York. Since July 2014, the actress is UN Special Ambassador for Women and Girls Rights. Emma Watson is currently working on the HeForShe campaign, which is designed to encourage men and boys to actively promote women's rights and, above all, equal rights, but also their own equality.

Why Feminism Does not Mean Man Hate

The more Emma Watson has talked about Femisnismus in recent months, the more aware she has become that fighting for women's rights is increasingly equated with male hatred. "If there is one thing that I know for sure, it is that this must stop, " said the UN Ambassador. "To capture it, " says Emma Watson, "feminism is by definition the belief that men and women should have the same rights."

Emma Watson calls herself a feminist and considers herself one of those women who are described as "too strong, too aggressive, isolated, man-hating, and even unattractive." The term 'feminist' got a negative connotation.

According to Watson's statement, not a single country on earth today can claim to have fully enforced gender equality.

To achieve this goal, the actress now especially appeals to the men and boys of the world with the new HeForShe campaign: "Equality of the sexes is also your business." Gender should be understood as a range of possibilities, not as two completely opposite categories.

Inspirational words that did not bring a huge round of applause to Emma Watson for nothing. We are looking forward to the impact of the HeForShe campaign. The speech of the UN Ambassador can be seen here completely as a video.
