Salmonella risk recall at ALDI: Salmonella could get stuck in this food!

What would autumn be without nuts? However, we lost our appetite for this message: ALDI Nord recalls hazelnut kernels due to the risk of salmonella.

We never would have thought so: Salmonella can also be found in hazelnuts

Hazelnut kernels, walnuts, almonds ... In autumn, there is hardly a better schnack than nuts. Are also healthy. That's what I thought, at least, until now this message has come to my ears: The food discounter ALDI Nord recalls ground hazelnuts. The nuts may be contaminated with salmonella. During the recalled "Trader Joe's Ground Hazelnut Kernels, 200g" from the supplier "Heinrich Brühning GmbH", Salmonella were found in a routine check in a sample.

Unlike the widespread belief, salmonella does not only occur in meat and eggs. The pathogens can also attack dry foods such as sesame, cereal or just nuts. The bacteria are transmitted by mice that invade their stocks. Once the salmonella are in the raw materials, they spread from there in record time.

Affected by the Salmonella infestation are nuts with the best before date 01.08.2017 and 02.08.2017, which are sold in Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. Anyone who has purchased such a product, can return it in a store and gets the purchase price refunded. Salmonella causes stomach pain and can lead to gastrointestinal disorders .
