His secret recipe: eating low carb and high carb in alternating rhythms. Specifically, this means you start daily with a power breakfast of protein and carbohydrates. One day you will have lunch and dinner with low-carb meals . For example, lean meat, fish and vegetables. Next up is high-carb s like pasta, rice and potatoes.

To do this, combine delicious snacks between meals. So you eat every three hours and drink enough water. With light movement, the pounds tumble even faster.

Powell recommends exercising while on the diet, preferably six times a week for half an hour. Endurance sports such as walking or cycling. On the low-carb days, light strength exercises help build muscle.

Clever choice

For pasta, bread, flour and rice, choose the whole-grain version - because darker is healthier here. Also grab muesli with the meaty varieties. For fruits and vegetables, fresh ingredients are always better than canned or ready meals.

Drink properly

As with most diets, it is important during carbohydrate cycling to provide the body with enough fluids. Nutritionist Chris Powell recommends drinking around three and a half liters of water or unsweetened teas every day.
