Protected from frost

Protect roots from frost

The first step to winterize plants is to cut off dead bodies such as branches, so that the crop does not invest too much energy here. Then it is particularly important to cover the roots properly. Straw, bark mulch or autumn leaves help to protect the sensitive plant parts from cold and frost . Container plants that are hardy, the pot should be wrapped with fleece, coconut mats or bubble wrap.

Trees should also be winterized. The best way to protect the floor and trunk with mats or jute from the cold .

When is the right time?

Plants should not be covered too soon, as the cooler days help them to calm down and prepare for the winter. In addition, they are hardened and thus better prepared for spring, when it comes to night frost after the first warm days.

Plants that are not hardy should be stored stainless in the basement or in the attic . Do not forget to pour regularly.

Two variants to winterize your plants

With wire and leaves

You need: potted plant, hare wire, side cutters, wire and foliage

It's so easy: 1. Put the potted plant on a table, roll out the hare wire and lay loosely around the potted plant. 2. Cut the hare wire and connect the meshes with approx. 5 cm pieces of wire to form a "cylinder". 3. Fill the entire cylinder with foliage.

With bubble wrap and jute

You need: Plant in the pot, bubble wrap, jute fabric 85 x 80 cm and scissors

It's that easy: 1. Beat the pot of the plant with bubble wrap. 2. Cut a piece of jute 5 x 80 cm long. 3. Spread out a large piece of jute and place the pot in the middle of it. 4. Beat pot with jute and tie with the previously cut strip.
