History of the tulips
At the end of the 16th century, the first tulips appeared in the Netherlands and sparked a wave of enthusiasm. However, at that time hardly anyone could afford the exotic onions, so that tulips quickly became the status symbol. They were traded on the stock exchange and auctioned at auctions - you could even buy shares in tulip bulbs. The most expensive specimen was the "Semper Augustus", which achieved the record price of 10, 000 guilders in 1637. At that time you got a canal house in Amsterdam. Barely 40 years later, the tulip market collapsed.

What remained was the fascination with the tulips . Today, there are more than 5, 000 different tulip varieties in almost all colors, including blue and black. Many of the long-stemmed graces can now be found in the flower shops. Until the bulbs in the garden drift again, bring tulips as cut flowers spring into the house.
Our tip: Particularly impressive is the tulip blossom in the Netherlands, where the world's largest breeding stations are located. For example, in the Keukenhof (information about www.keukenhof.nl ) about 100 types of tulips bloom. From late March to mid-May, this flower park is open and well worth a visit.
