Miss World? Gähhhnnnn! But stop, this year's winner can do much more than just look pretty. Why we find Rolene Strauss a cool beauty queen.
Normally we do not find bad choices interesting. To be honest, it's a bit antiquated how young girls with toothpaste smiles are being chased across the stage in bikinis, answering questions about world peace and, in the end, glittering and accepting a trophy.
The new Miss World made us sit up and listen. After all, she is not only beautiful, but also has brains . The 22-year-old Rolene Strauss from South Africa studies medicine, plays three instruments and likes to jump from a bridge - with rope on the leg, of course. But her human commitment in particular makes Miss World 2014 a worthy winner: Rolene Strauss is committed, among other things, to poverty reduction and better medical care in her native South Africa.
Exactly this mix convinced not only the jury of the competition, but also us. In fact, Rolene Strauss seems to be a real power woman we would like to see more about.
