Max Irons will be 28 in October, but still looks like a tall, somewhat reserved boy. Everyone soon gets to know him through the starring role in the sci-fi romance "Souls", whose book is written by the "Twilight" successor Stephenie Meyer. Such a career booster seems to be a little uncomfortable for the polite Briton.

Why you just have to love Max Irons, check out the gallery!

So far, his father, the well-known actor Jeremy Irons, has always been in the spotlight. Max worked his way up slowly: from 2006 to 2008, he studied at the Drama School in London and then played theater. In 2010 he appeared in the English TV series "The Runaway". In the same year he had a mini-appearance in "Dorian Gray" and in 2011 he flirted in the fantasy film "Red Riding Hood" as a blacksmith with Amanda Seyfried.

JOY: After the "Twilight" -Hype the expectations of the successor "Soelen" are of course extremely high. Have you read the books of Stephenie Meyer?

Max Irons: Not a single one! I have not even seen the "Twilight" movies. It was not until I got the script of "souls" that I became involved with it, as I was afraid it might be a copy of the vampire stories. Because a copy of a phenomenon never works. As I read, I quickly realized that souls are based on very different ideas.

Despite the completely different topic you are already being traded as the new Robert Pattinson. How do you find that?

I do not know him personally, but the comparison honors me! There are many young English actors - but he has prevailed. But every coin has two sides: Robert has lost his freedom with the success. On the other hand, he now enjoys the privilege of working with great directors like David Cronenberg. That's what every actor dreams of.

In "souls, " an alien has taken your girlfriend's body and you do not know if you can still trust her. Are you privately too cautious or bona fide?

A girl told me on the first date, that you have to gain confidence in her. It always starts at zero and slowly increases, until it finally opens completely. For me, it's the other way round: I trust people always one hundred percent and must occasionally cut back later. No wonder that nothing has come of her and me (laughs). In principle, I rather see the good in people, but I do not trust everyone blindly, but rely on my gut feeling. Breaking trust is the biggest no-go in a friendship for me. Luckily I have normal, reliable friends - none of them is an actor.

That's what your father is famous for. Was it really an advantage at Castings to be the son of Jeremy Irons?

Rather a disadvantage! Of course, my last name awakens interest in casting agents, but more is expected of me. Everybody has a bad day, but if I have one as the son of Jeremy Irons, everyone remembers that. In addition, no film boss gives a newcomer a role just because he has famous parents.

Has your father given you tips on life in showbiz?

My parents are convinced that I have to make my own mistakes. However, my father told me to never forget what it's all about: the fun of acting. Not fame, celebrity status or photo shoots. In addition, I can expect that after great moments usually follows a defeat and that there are always others who are better than you.

After this advice, do you find it easier to deal with rejection?

Well, I try to deal with cancellations in the job as well as women as rational as possible, and then tell me: "It should not have been!" Of course, this does not always work, I cried out of frustration - so much for my great tactic (laughs).

Have you moved to Los Angeles by now?

No, I still live in London and just fly over for shoots. L.A. is too surreal for me. My mother is also relieved that I'm staying in England because she's worried that Hollywood can destroy young actors like me. Although I should do my own experiences, but also with 27 years she still wants to protect me (laughs).
