5 DIY ideas: How to decorate your old dresser

It's that easy

Turning old into new: With a new front, we breathe new life into old chests of drawers. Here are our 5 DIY ideas that you can do yourself with our instructions.

What you need for the blue-white dresser:

  • Chest of drawers (eg from Ikea, HEMNES, 149 €)
  • Lacquer in different shades of blue (hardware store)
  • chest of drawers
  • Paint roller (hardware store)
  • Knobs (eg from Butlers)
  • screwdriver

And that's how easy it is:

1. Mix lacquer in the desired colors at the hardware store.

2. Pull drawers out of the dresser, unscrew old knobs.

3. Paint with a paint roller. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

4. Install new knobs.

What you need for the dresser with swallows:

And that's how easy it is:

1. Remove the wall stickers from the protective film and stick to the cabinet and the wall.

What you need for the green chest of drawers:

  • Cupboard (from the flea market)
  • Sanding block and sandpaper (alternatively sanding machine)
  • green acrylic paint
  • Stencil (Martha Stewart on Amazon)
  • Adhesive strips (eg tesa)
  • white acrylic paint
  • screwdriver
  • old rag
  • Brush or paint roller
  • stippling

And that's how easy it is:

1. Free the cabinet from hinges and trim fittings.

2. Sand the cabinet.

3. Thoroughly clean the cabinet from sanding dust.

4. Paint the cabinet green. Let the paint dry well.

5. Carefully secure the template to the cabinet with adhesive tape.

6. Carefully fill in the motif with a stub brush and white paint. The template must be cleaned after each application. Allow the finished motif to dry well before applying any further motifs.

7. Screw on the fittings again.

What you need for the retro chest of drawers:

  • old chest of drawers
  • fine sandpaper
  • Wallpaper (Spear Rose, by FermLiving)
  • wallpaper paste
  • Ruler / tape measure
  • Cutter with cutting pad
  • bowl
  • spoon
  • Brush / brush
  • soft sponge

And that's how easy it is:

1. Cutting: Clean the surface of the chest of drawers and lightly sand the surfaces to be covered. Carefully remove the grinding dust. Take measurements with the help of the steel ruler from the drawer fronts and the surface. Cut the wallpaper accordingly with the cutter (maybe make a stencil).

2. Pasting: Mix the paste according to the instructions in a bowl. Cover the back of the wallpaper with it. Allow the paste to infiltrate briefly.

3. Glue: Stick wallpaper on the dresser. Use a soft sponge to gently wipe from the center to the edges. Let dry.

Info: In place of the glue, wall covering and border adhesive can also be used. Helpful when sticking a second person.

What you need for the dresser with the colorful drawers:

  • Chest of drawers (eg from Ikea, HEMNES, 149 €)
  • Wallpaper (Marburg_Die Moda, about wallpaper Institute)
  • Double-sided adhesive tape (eg from tesa)
  • Cutting rail / cutting rail
  • pencil
  • Cutter with cutting pad

And that's how easy it is:

1. Measure the height of the drawer sides.

2. Cut the wallpaper, plan on approx. 10 cm each cover for the upper and lower edge. Make sure that the pattern runs the same for each drawer.

3. Stick double-sided adhesive tape to the two outer sides of the drawers.

4. Stick the wallpaper, fold down and inwards.
