How much effort does a "prince" have to bring?
All against Chris? The fiancee of Princess Madeleine (30), Christopher O'Neill (38), does not give a shit to make himself unpopular with the Swedes. Now he has voluntarily refused a royal title to which he would have a right after the wedding on 8 June.
However, Chris O'Neill would have to become a Swedish citizen - and of course he would have to give up his previous job.
But love does not go that far. As the Swedish royal court just announced, Chris wants to keep his American citizenship and continue to work in his job as a banker. He therefore respectfully gave to remain a private citizen, writes the court.
Why does Chris insist on citizenship and job? Does his love for Madeleine perhaps know limits? Or is there another reason? Maybe he just does not want a title ?
The question of the title of Christopher O'Neill had been pushed for a long time. At the announcement of Princess Victoria's (36) engagement at the same time the title of her - then still future - husband Daniel (39) was announced.
Maybe Chris rejects the title Duke of Hälsingland and Gästrikland also for a very trivial reason: This title was already princess Madeleines ex Jonas Bergström (33) in their engagement in view. Of course it is not nice to always be reminded of the ex-fiancee of his sweetheart.
And one must not forget that Chris has learned to appreciate his middle-class life. To be in the limelight sometimes will not be easy for him. As a duke, even more expectations and duties would come to him.
When Queen Máxima (42) married her Willem-Alexander (46), she once again went to school, learned fluent Dutch, as well as dialects and puzzled cultural studies. She sacrificed herself completely for YOUR country and even had to partially renounce her family in Argentina. Great sacrifices that not everyone has to bring.
And that does not expect Princess Madeleine from her Chris. She loves him the way he is - as a commoner. He should not change. And this love of Madeleine will appreciate Chris ...
