A medical miracle
All hope seems lost when the 37-year-old pregnant Sandra Pedro suddenly dies. But then their doctors discover the impossible.
Sandra Pedro was only in the 17th week of pregnancy when she came to the hospital in late February with a severe headache. What might possibly have been considered a migraine attack quickly became something far worse. It took only a few hours for Sandra to be declared brain dead because of a stroke. A big shock.
But shortly thereafter, the doctors in the intensive care unit made a discovery that sparked a spark of hope. For the impossible had happened: Sandra's unborn child had survived the death of his mother . This unimaginable development of events prompted physicians to keep the deceased mother's body alive longer - to give her son the opportunity to survive.
After 107 days in the womb of his deceased mother, little Lourenco was born . For 15 weeks, the doctors kept his mother alive by all means possible. Meanwhile, the nurses and nurses cared for the unborn child. They played music for him, sang to him, stroked his mother's belly to stimulate him. Her reward was to see Lourenco grow slowly in his mother's stomach.
On the day of his birth, not only Sandra's family, but also the entire hospital team in Lisbon, Portugal, was moved to tears. Unfortunately, in this beautiful moment, it was also clear that you finally had to say goodbye to Sandra Pedro. The 37-year-old was buried only one day after the birth of her son.
In the meantime, Lourenco no longer needs to be ventilated.
Even before her pregnancy with Lourenco warned her doctors Sandra before the possible complications . After the removal of a kidney tumor, multiple pneumonia and chronic heart problems, pregnancy harbored enormous risks. But the 37-year-old wanted to be a mother again.
Sandra leaves not only the little Lourenco, but also a 12-year-old son from a previous relationship. Hopefully, someday she will remember her mother with pride.
