The brand is accused of racism . Is that justified?

"All women are beautiful": This could be the motto for the cosmetics manufacturer Dove. Since 2004, the brand has been committed to natural beauty ideals. Models are sought in vain at Dove. In the campaigns you can see normal women of all sizes, in all age groups and all skin colors.

That's why the somewhat unfortunate imprint on the "Summer Glow" body lotion is problematic. From a brand like Dove you might expect a bit more skill when dealing with skin colors. However, with the label "Nourishing lotion for normal to dark skin", Dove expresses in the eyes of many female buyers that dark skin is not normal skin.

Over the top? Not for many women. Comments on Twitter show that especially dark-skinned women feel attacked. "My skin is normal, you idiots, " writes a US user. The Unilever group, which includes Dove, speaks of a mistake. It is a wrong formulation. Nevertheless, a bitter aftertaste remains for many women - especially because of the "Sauberfrau" image of Dove.
