Healthy eating

Who thought so far, he is doing himself and his health with a freshly squeezed orange juice something good, wrong. The business and consumer magazine WISO has tested 12 freshly squeezed juices from the supermarket, a juice bar and fruit retailers and found scary things.

Molds and intestinal bacteria in the juice. What sounds like a polarizing headline, is unfortunately the unclouded truth. Two of the four supermarket juices tested have mold fungus residues. Even with the juices of the juice bars it does not look better. In addition to mold fungi, residues of intestinal bacteria could be found here. While gut bacteria are less of a concern to a healthy person, children, old and immunocompromised people can get sick more quickly with an intestinal infection. All the more pleasing is that all four juices of the fruit merchants have no impurities.

The problem is known

Bernd Stumm, a certified food inspector, knows the problem of freshly squeezed juices: "In my opinion, there could be problems in several areas: Once this is the fruit, which may be outdated, then the life of an orange juice and the handling of the fruit or fruit juice with the pressing. "Not only Bernd Stumm but also the Federal Office for Consumer Protection knows about the evil of contaminated juices. Already three years ago, the Office has found a 13 percent increase in the burden of mold-infused juices .

Does that mean that we now have to do without freshly squeezed juices ? NO! The test has shown that most juices are perfectly fine. If you want to play it safe, you can freshly squeeze your juice when buying. This keeps the vitamin content.

A good news at the end: Two of the negative manufacturers have responded to inquiries from ZDF personally and promised to consider the incident.
