The difference between "well meant" and "well done" was rarely as great as this proposal of the Junge Union (JU). Politicians, mothers and families are angry. The reason for the rage: The chairman of the Junge Union, Paul Ziemiak, threw an idea into the world that really only exists at first glance.
In the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" he demanded a "starter bonus" for families of 1, 000 euros for each new-born child. The decision for children should be made so simpler by the state for initial purchases, etc. arises.
This part of the idea could still be worthy of discussion. But somehow such a premium must be paid. And there the madness finally begins.
To get the expenses back, Ziemiak demands a special tax:
- If you have no children, you should pay one percent of your gross income.
- Even those who have a child should give half a percent of their income.
- Only families with two or more children would be exempt from the special tax after the introduction of the JU.
The insanity consequences:
- Couples who actually want children, but who do not succeed, would also be punished.
- For small families with one child, the 1, 000 euros would be a lousy business if they have less income over the years due to the special tax.
Fortunately, other politicians are so excited about the absurd idea that they might soon be off the table again. Christian Bäumler of the CDU announced in the "Handelsblatt" that such a special levy was stigmatizing and mediocre . What remains of the discussion: A meaningful family support would be incredibly important for all of us. But there have to be new suggestions.
