Thin Photoshop: Tasteless network hype

This tasteless before-and-after can be found on the Instagram page of Project Harpoon.

All women HATE these photos - and with good reason!

They want to encourage people to live healthier, but with their thinly retouched photo comparisons but a lot of women are upside down. And worse! More and more voices are shouting: This is anorexia propaganda!

Only thinner is more beautiful? This absolutely silly statement is currently disseminating the Project Harpoon on virtually every social network. Or, as they say, "It's about posting #thinnerbeauty ." The Facebook account has 11, 100 followers so far, clearly 11, 100 too many who are asked to "exercise the movement and be normal ".

UPDATE: The Facebook page of Project Harpoon has been blocked by Facebook.

On its social media channels, the creators show pictures of so-called "plus size" women and men in the tasteless Photoshop before and after . Say: in addition to the original photo is ever found on a thin trimmed version of the original. One of the comparisons goes so far as to split a woman into two.

Also the comments under the photos are absolutely inappropriate. For example, under a picture of a model posing on the beach, "from manatee to mermaid" ("from the manatee to the mermaid"). Another showing a woman on the street is accompanied by the words: "Now this is a true looker in disguise." From double wide to a possible bride, being thin could do wonders. " ("That's a real disguised beauty." Being twice the size of a possible bride, being thin will do wonders. "

Hard to believe, but the comments are not even the worst thing about this account. Even worse: The project calls itself "feminist", it wants to encourage people to live "healthier". Besides hashtags like "#fitchicks #chickswholift #crossfit #lifetimefitness #lafitness #weightlift #happierwhenskinny #feminism #feminist #girlpower #womensrights #healthy #eatright #gains".

The anonymous founder of the site responds to critics as saying, "If I offend 1000 people, but only make one take off and lead a happier life, that's fine with me."

It's clear the site has been flooded since its inception with comments showing how dangerous this type of perfect-body propaganda is. One writes: "Calling people 'Fetties' is not an inspiration, it's bullying, it takes pictures of strangers to reduce their self-confidence, and ironically, the 'lack of self-esteem' is a side effect of obesity, the top of the account itself was listed. "

Another comment is, "I may not be the slenderest person, but happier today than I did when I weighed a few pounds less, I think you missed the topic, this site does not encourage people to change, she says one that they are ugly and because of their body weight can not be accepted by society. "

One user adds, "I'm totally in favor of accounts that promote a healthy lifestyle, but that's not how it should look, there's a difference between a health and hate, and that's the second case here."

Or even more blatant:

"There are beautiful women who do something to themselves because of what you are doing here, glorifying your comparisons, harassing people and claiming that just being skinnier is beautiful ... you make women anorexic and that in itself is unhealthy and a psychological illness ... There is not one post that shows how to live well, eat well ... How about you show real success stories to underpin your messages ?! "

We refrain from showing more pictures of the page. And prefer to refer to stories that make you feel really good in your own body. You can find them here, for example, here or here. A healthy body does not have a specific dress size, it is much more respectful to deal with it.
