Celebrities rely on contrasts
New York's MET Costume Institute Gala is the year's most glamorous red carpet in the fashion industry. The theme of the night "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" celebrated America's first couturier, who made his name in the 1950s with expressive evening wear. In honor of the designer, who died in 1978, Anna Wintour invited the who-is-who of the fashion scene to the opening of the exhibition.
A-list celebrities, supermodels and the crème de la crème of the designers were in agreement: Black & White is one of the dominant trend themes of the season. Whether Cara Delevingne in a modern black and white outfit, Naomi Watts in transparent gradient or Lily Donaldson, who crowned her white floor-length dress with a long black bow: they all wore Black & White. Sarah Jessica Parker got involved in Oscar de la Renta, who was inspired by Charles James' famous dress "Clover Leaf".
Also in Black & White: Anna Kendrick with cut-out, the high-necked Hailee Steinfeld, Charlize Theron in the Hollywood-diva look, Chloe Grace Moretz with a soft rosé touch, Zoe Saldana with a puffy skirt and Stella McCartney in a self-creation.
