JOY Online: Behnam, first of all congratulations: you are "The Next Fashion Talent"! What was the biggest challenge on the way here?
Behnam Samrad: That was probably the show by Heatherette in New York, where three of us shared a single room and had to work without busts and cut bases. I've designed a catsuit and tailoring trousers without tools, that's not really possible. Luckily, Franzi (competitor, editor's note) has always put on my design, so that he actually fit the model at the end.

Was there any other challenge? In Milan, we should design a dress for the red carpet. I have little experience in this, because my focus is more in street style.
For whom were the clothes? For Sandy Meyer-Wölden and Shermine Shahrivar, whose dress I designed. In my design for the corsage dress, of course, she had the last word, which was unusual for me as a young designer. When the wrong material was delivered, Shermine was not thrilled. In the end, she agreed and everything went well.
What do your competitors say - are they happy about you or are they jealous? I see myself as someone who gets along with all people, at least as long as they are nice to me. I am still in contact with my 16 finalists.
Is a dream come true with victory? Yes, definitely. I never expected to win, but now I'm standing here, experiencing a lot of great things and meeting lots of interesting people. But the fact that I'm here today for the JOY shoot is amazing.
How to proceed now? My collection for Hallhuber is coming to the shops, Swarovski has asked me for a cooperation. Maybe I'll do my own thing and design a street style collection.
What do you advise other young designers? Well, I'm not Tom Ford ... (laughs). Do your own thing, keep track of your vision and then it will work out. Hope dies last!
