Our suggestion: Schloss Lühburg near Stralsund, beautifully situated, with lots of Baroque, fireplace and a barking host. Plus: even more affordable locks.
She tickles me on the tips of my toes, crawls along the calf's cheeks. Just before she gets my knees, I chase away the cold with the heavy down comforter. The room smells of wet leaves and fresh air. Last night was a "window-on-night" as demanded by Ines, Sabine and me. Tina and Freddy prefer it warm - so tomorrow will be sweaty. "That's how it is in a democracy, " says Steffi. And without them it would not work if you travel with eight friends. Basta. Democracy, that's us: Steffi, Carmen, Tina, Freddy, Kathrin, Frauke, Ines, Sabine and me. We went to school together, skipped physics lessons together, danced through nights, passed love dramas. That's ten years ago - and we're now spread across Germany. Because you can not watch the laughter on the phone, do not hug or hug the longed-for marriage proposal with dry red wine, we're here. In the middle of Meck-Pom. In an old, yolk-yellow manor house as in the Guldenburgs.
We did not want shopping, museums, pubs - we wanted time for ourselves. It takes two hours to drive from Hamburg to Hamburg. First motorway, then village street. Finally quite a long jerk. Meadows and pastures flow past us to the left and right, all wearing a beige-brown camouflage look and above them lies fog, fluffy like cotton candy. Then suddenly, at the end of an avenue, our castle. Peng, bum, like in a fairytale. "Welcome", our hostess Regine Steffen welcomes us. The real master of the house sits enthroned majestically in the baroque chair in the entrance hall, raising his head slightly here and there: Lotta, the jack russel terrier of the house. We are impressed - and full of respect. Until the noble sprout reveals its true character and hides intimidated behind the curved chair leg as soon as Mistress is out of reach. The days spin down here like the last colorful leaves in the drafty courtyard. We have breakfast for two hours and two more for sitting. We go for a walk and afterwards make a leaf-fight in the Schlossallee. Frauke and I try to fish, but catch nothing. But almost fall into the castle pond - accompanied by loud laughter.
Only once we leave our little paradise and explore the next larger city: Stralsund. In the Café Gumper directly at the harbor, we fortify ourselves with the world's best sea buckthorn cake and watch through the window, as the ice blue sea splashes against the quay wall. In the evening we make ourselves comfortable in front of the fireplace, warm our red frozen noses with hot tea and pastries. Kathrin and Frauke share the wing chair and whisper now and then. Reading Freddy and Ines, sometimes with their eyes closed. Tina's head is lying in my lap and the old windows are fogged up, as if someone from outside had breathed good. I do not know what it is. The girls? The rest? The old baroque sofa? Or the sweet jam cookies? But suddenly I feel so happy that I want to order champagne. "Cheers, " Tina says at that moment. Turn around and gently push against my with her flowered teacup.
