Dress test of the editors
What does one and the same dress look like to three women of the same size? We dared the self-test in the WUNDERWEIB editorial office - with surprising results ...
The fashion industry is trying to squeeze us into regular measures. You are a 36, you a 40 and you a 44! Of course, the female body can not be standardized. One has a little more hip, the other a smaller bust or wider shoulders ... Our looks and our bodies are individual and absolutely unique in this world - and that's wonderful.
But sometimes it can also make us desperate. Especially if, for example, we are looking for a new, beautiful dress for the summer. As a unit size quickly becomes the enemy in front of the mirror. How can that look? We've made the test.
Managing Editor Inga, food editor Sina and fashion editor Marieke (from left to right) venture the self-experiment. They all wear dress size 38, are slim and between 1.70 m and 1.80 m tall. Dreams that every one else would say: they have everything! But the test shows: Far from it ...
We start our experiment with a blue, sleeveless viscose dress. Particularly clever detail: the fabric, which is fastened laterally with a double buckle and falls down like a waterfall. Also conceal a small tummy after eating. Marieke thinks: "Looks better in any case, than thought". And also with Inga the dress is ok. Editor Sina, on the other hand, still has room for styling. The gathering is bad, the dress is pretty short with her. Optimal finds the look but none of them. So gone with it and put on the next dress ...
We opt for a black wrap dress with curry-colored floral prints. And everyone agrees: Wrap dresses? Not my thing! But when trying on Sina surprised: "That does not look so bad on me - I would not have thought!" True, we find. Through her long legs, the dress looks beautiful and proportioned. But what do you do if you have size 38, but only 1.65 meters? Our other two girls can not win the dress so much. Behind the changing curtain it whispers: "I look like an old washerwoman", "That looks impossible" ... Ok, next please ...
At least one of them should have every woman: the little black is the classic among the companions for a chic invitation - and a must-have in the closet. After all, Black does make a nice slim, too. So come on! The tube dress with raglan sleeves still looks so good on the hanger. Everyone wonders what the slit neckline on the neckline can do. Off to the locker room and - tadaaa! Surprise! Fanfare! Champagne! It stands. ALL !!! And we can already reveal it now: The black, tight-fitting dress is obviously by far the most universally portable dress of the whole test for EVERY FIGURE. Styling thumbs up from all participants!
Still completely excited, the next dress is a fall into the bottomless. The striped beach dress in cream and blue is none of the miracle women really good. Granted: It's just a dress for the beach, which you quickly over-measures to speed to the ice man. For everything else, it's too short, at least for our test subjects. Sit down without panties? Almost impossible! The straight cut also does not necessarily flatter the figure.
From to the next test object. Floral dresses are the absolute hit right now this season. Beautifully cheerful and playful, they should accompany us through life on sunny days. But are there already some dark styling clouds? Not with Inga, who likes the dress with pencil skirt and brings out her curves. In the case of Marieke and Sina, on the other hand, the fabric wrinkles on the waist and stomach - it almost beats waves. So this dress is just home with one of the three ...
Finally, we grab again to the full and take all courage together. Because, let's be honest: For this dress, all three are actually a bit too mature. The short tube dress in black is tight cut and makes first hope that it is all as good as the little black before. But we are disappointed. Inga's dress wrinkles on the hips, Marieke does not fit the neckline - only Sina fits into the cut, but does not like the piece despite the beam smile. Obviously, it is not due to the black itself, but to the form - theory refuted.
And what do we learn from this? A 38 is not always women with a 38. The clothing sizes can actually provide only a certain orientation, but are just not a guarantee for a properly fitting outfit. Trying on is worthwhile - and buying directly from the bar often leads to an exchange. And please, dear women: Stop buying clothing in your conventional size if it does not fit. It is not a drama to take the shirt in 40 just because the smaller model is too tight. That's why you have not just increased or need to grieve - you just become a victim of standardization ...
