Creative protest

With a Bodypaint performance, the cosmetics manufacturer LUSH and the non-profit organization BLOOM want to draw attention to the destruction of the deep sea.

"Wow, what a brilliant picture!" This is probably the first thought that goes through most people's minds when they look at this spectacular photo. With its many colors and the contrast to the background, it seems like from another world. At first one does not know what one actually sees. Is it an octopus or a human? Of course, one soon realizes that it is a painted person, but the way of staging is simply unique! But how did this picture come about and why?

The photo is part of a bodypaint live performance by cosmetics manufacturer LUSH and the marine conservation organization BLOOM . On Wednesday at the same time in each of 13 European Lush shops persons with bodypaint were transformed into a threatened underwater life. However, the artworks were destroyed just a few seconds after their completion. This was to show how sensitive and vulnerable the deep-sea ecosystem is. From the 8th to the 14th of September, all Lush outlets will be alerted to the enormous damage caused by deep-sea fishing.

EU-wide discussions are currently underway on a reform of the Deep-Sea Fisheries Regulation, as well as on a general ban on bottom trawling. The threat of the deep sea is really immense: By deep-sea fishing numerous fish species and other creatures have been extinguished in just one generation! And that, although scientific research has shown that deep-sea fishing is unprofitable. The fishing quotas are very low.

It is all the more important that people are informed about it. The protest action of LUSH and BLOOM is definitely very creative and impressive!
