The boss hostess and the prince

Changing the Guard in London: Prince Carl Philip and Prince Daniel have vacated their seats at the Olympics, but since Tuesday King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia are present at the venues to cheer on the Swedish athletes.

With Silvia and Carl Gustaf, this journey should evoke romantic memories: in 1972 at the Olympic Games in Munich, the two met for the first time, and it was the same "click" made, as the Queen later in various interviews - once even to me - mischievously smiling has betrayed.

Silvia told how she had the prominence as head hostess under her wing, including a nice, polite young man from Sweden. This watched from the stand with binoculars interested in the competition events. Until - until Silvia felt that the binoculars were no longer directed into the distance, but directly on them, which was only two meters away.

"That was so hilarious that we both had to laugh heartily, " she said. When the Swedish Crown Prince then took down the binoculars and she looked deep into his blue eyes, and he looked deep into her brown eyes, it had happened to both ...

The rest is well-known: After a long hide-and-seek game with many discrete meetings, both managed to clear all "diplomatic" hurdles so that this "Olympics click" ended in a dream wedding in 1976, 40 years ago! As in the fairy tale, Miss Sommerlath then became Queen of Sweden.
