In March 2009, just nine months old Lara Mia died in Hamburg. She starved. Already in 2010, the stepfather of the little girl was sentenced to a suspended sentence. The prosecution appealed, but Daniel C. was unable to negotiate for years due to a mental illness. On 10 November 2016, the procedure was resumed. Now a new judgment was spoken. Lara Mia's stepfather Daniel C. was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.

This is the verdict of the Hamburg district court on the claim of the prosecutor. This demanded a probation of one year and eight months. The charge: Manslaughter by omission. According to the indictment, Lara Mia was already "not fed enough from October 2008".

The presiding judge explained the verdict as follows: "At the latest one month before the death, the defendant recognized that the child could die without medical help." Lara Mia weighed just 4.8 kilograms at the age of nine months at the time of her death. The double would have been normal at her age.

However, since the defense of Daniel C. appeals appeal, it may still take until the 29-year-old actually has to take his sentence.

Lara Mia's mother, Jessica R., was sentenced in November 2011 for attempted manslaughter by imposing a three-year youth sentence. The then responsible supervisor of the youth welfare office, who had not noticed the condition of the apartment of Lara Mia's parents, was also found guilty. She had to be fined for negligent assault by imposing a fine of 2, 700 euros.
