Although Royal Ascot is a horse race. At Ladies Day, the four-legged friends play only a minor role. Much more important are the women's hats. And so year after year, all the visitors work hard to find the most unusual headgear. This year Royal Ascot celebrated its 300th anniversary - this requires particularly creative measures!

Queen Elizabeth II, who opened the race in 2011, held back nobly. She wore a sort of cylinder in pistachio with a pink braided hatband. Even Princess Beatrix, who recently danced with a fancy hat creation at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, this time put on understatement with a nude-colored wide-brimmed hat.

Well protected with the iPhone

The other visitors, on the other hand, got really excited: Two ladies appeared in green hats with several iPhones or an iPad on them. Oversized wigs, ducks or giant flowers were also featured. Is there anybody thinking about the horses? And if, because this year the four-legged beats back: Hat designer Stephen Jones designed a hat for racehorse Ambers, which is to remember Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady". We can only think of one thing: The spiders, the British.
