Olive oil is considered healthy and is often used in cooking. However, as a study of the "Stiftung Warentest" has now shown, most oils are not as good as intended. Whole 10 out of 24 oils tested were found to be "deficient".

Cost-effective oils with prices between 5.05 Euro and 14.70 Euro per liter without a clear indication of origin were tested. In such oil blends usually the crops of different countries are mixed together, which is why the price is so much cheaper.

The tested oils could not convince especially in taste . According to "Stiftung Warentest" the oils tasted "rancidly old" and could not compete with more expensive products with a clear country of origin. In addition, almost every second oil found small amounts of mineral oil that can accumulate in the body. Legal limits were not exceeded.

Not a single of the tested cheap oils got the verdict "good". After all, oils from the discounter performed satisfactorily: the organic oil from Aldi Nord, the olive oil "Primadonna" from Lidl and "Vegola" from Netto received a rating of 2.9.
