Birgit Schrowange: "The joie de vivre of these terminally ill children touches me deeply

We were allowed to accompany the RTL presenter during a visit to the hospice

Since 2003, TV star Birgit Schrowange has been involved in the children's hospice Balthasar in Olpe. But rather quiet and secretive. Because the presenter ("Extra", RTL, mo. At 10:15 pm) does not want to make her work important, but really helps! For a change, she was allowed to accompany the new sheet during a visit. A deeply moving day in children who are mortally ill.

Are you talking to your son Laurin about your hospice visits? Birgit Schrowange: Yes, I want to make him aware that one should be happy when one is healthy. We talk about how nice it is when nothing hurts. Everything else is not that important. I would like to sensitize him to children who are not feeling well. It's also about other children being financially poor or living in institutions. He understands that. But I do not talk to him about the death of these children. This only scares him, but he is aware that someday he will die. They deal with families very naturally. Birgit Schrowange: It's normal for me. The parents are just as proud of their children as I am. They love their children, whether they are dying or not. They give so much to their moms and dads. I think they feel even happier and happier than healthy children. How did the cooperation with the children's hospice Balthasar come about? Birgit Schrowange: I love children and wanted to help. I think it's important to support these families. You can relax in this environment from the harsh everyday life or spend the last hours of life there in a loving environment.

How was your first contact with the sick children? Birgit Schrowange: As with every visit, he was very emotional. I am touched by the fates of these families. It is so sad and it almost breaks my heart to see how sick these kids are. Do you characterize these encounters? Birgit Schrowange: Yes, they make me thankful. For example, that my ten year old son Laurin is healthy. I admire the affected parents who change their lives to be there for their children day and night. It's not only psychologically, but also physically very hard. It is nice that the parents are collected in the hospice. And the siblings get the space they need. Because they often get into the background. They had tears in their eyes today when they visited. Birgit Schrowange: Yes, that's right. I take it with me every time. The kids are so cute and happy. How Paul laughed while sliding and was happy, that's so nice to look at - and sad at the same time. Also the big alert eyes of Leon touched me a lot. Despite their illness, the children radiate such strength and joie de vivre. I think then every time that the alleged everyday worries that you have yourself are not. The hospice lives on donations ... Birgit Schrowange: Incredible, right? There is no money for dying children in our country, but for banks. That makes me so angry! Because the managers get outrageously high salaries. The children there are terminally ill. Birgit Schrowange: That's so unfair. They know they will die. You have to imagine this! And most of the time these children are still comforting their parents because they can not stand their tears. I think that's incredibly sad.
