Bullfighting: Four Toreros die on a weekend
Within three days several bullfights ended differently than expected. Four Toreros died during the fight.
Bullfighting has been under criticism for a long time. How killing a living creature can be seen as a fun event is not just incomprehensible to animal rights activists. But at the same time, the fight between bull and bullfighter is still an integral part of Spanish culture. The tradition demands countless victims every year. However, these are not just bulls that die at the end of the event.
In addition to spectators, it is not uncommon the toreros who are injured. Within three days, there were now four deaths in Spain. If you go back only a few weeks, there are already seven people who have been killed since the beginning of July during a bullfight.
The last incident just happened on 16 August in Lerín, near Pamplona. A mere 18-year-old turned himself into a bull here, but this turned the tables literally. The animal started on the bullfighter, who got a horn rammed in the stomach. The 18-year-old died on the way to the hospital.
Just one day before, two bullfights in the Penafiel and Museros were fatal to the torero. The 32- and 36-year-old men died. But the cruel accidents continue to pile up. On Friday the 14.8., Before the three other deaths, a released bull in Blanca fatally injured a 55-year-old.
Four Toreros died within a weekend. The cruel incidents are piling up. Only a few weeks earlier, one of the most famous toreros in Spain, Francisco Riviera Ordonez, was impaled by a bull on his stomach. He survived the accident, but is still in serious condition. Other deaths in connection with bulls had occurred on 9th August and 14th July.
It almost seems like the animals are rearing up for the years of torture. The deaths are again protests against the controversial tradition of bullfighting.
