And even after the storm surge night threatens the north of black ice. In the south, temperatures drop to minus 26 degrees. A bit like Siberia, weather experts describe the weather that is now coming to southern Germany.

Storm surge in Lübeck, Kiel and Rostock

In the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, the water pushed into the city center. Districts near the lower and Upper Trave were no longer passable. Sandbags had to protect houses from the cold floods. Cars were flooded. The firefighters have been reinforced in the meantime. In the region of Lübeck, Rostock, the level was 1.60 meters above mean water level.

On Rügen streets were washed over and a district of the island cut off from the rest. In Stralsund, Wismar and Rostock local residents also secured their houses with sandbags in front of the Baltic Sea water, which sank out of sewers.

Although the storm surge was the worst since 2006 and it came faster than expected, the danger is banned. The water levels are already falling again.

Now the north is threatened with black ice

Currently Germany is in minus temperatures. After the south is already used to snow and slipperiness, lightning ice and slipperiness threaten the north again. Already on Wednesday evening there were 22 smoothness related accidents in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

But the south is not spared accidents. In Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, there were about 160 smoothness accidents on Wednesday and Thursday.

Above all in the east, north and south of Germany, the risk of black ice continues on Thursday. Here motorists must be very careful.

The West can be happy: Especially in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), people can look forward to up to six hours of sunshine.
