You should pay attention to this when car-building
On vacation, rental cars are pretty handy. Expert Frieder Bechtel from the portal billiger-mietwagen.de reveals what you should look out for in the car series.
1. It's not just about the price
Frieder Bechtel advises: "Compare not only the prices of the providers, but also their ratings." You can benefit from the experience of other rental car users. You should also pay attention to the tank regulations. "There are various offers: low rental prices, but you have to pay extra for the first tank filling plus service charge, or a bit more expensive cars, but they are already full and you do not have to pay extra, " says the expert. Check in advance which offer will be cheaper for you in the end.
2. Book early is worth it
This applies to the rental car on vacation as well as for the journey itself. It is also clever to book from home. As a rule, you have a German contact person for questions and problems.
3. Do not forget insurance coverage!
Bechtel recommends at least a theft and comprehensive insurance with glass and tire insurance without deductibles and a million euro liability sum. On well paved roads, additional tire insurance may not be necessary. However, if you are traveling on roads that are difficult to drive, as you can often find in rural areas such as Spain or Greece, you should also insure your roof and tires.
4th inspection before the start
Before you go, run around your car and check it for possible damage (scratches, bumps). "The landlord must note this in the contract, so that later you should not be liable, " explains Frieder Bechtel. So insist on a tour before driving with your rental car.
5. After refueling pick up the ticket
If you have to deliver the vehicle fueled, you really fill up completely. "Pick up the receipt, " advises the expert. "If the landlord has to refuel or at least claims it will be expensive." Then the rental car costs more than planned.
6. Pay nodules before returning the car
You accidentally drove the rental car too fast? It is best to pay the nodule to the authorities before returning the car. If the landlord passes on the ticket later, you will have to pay more.
7. Carefully return the car
If a rental car is too heavily polluted on delivery, it can be expensive. The landlord may ask you to pay for the cleaning. So it is best to drive through the car wash before returning the car.
8. Returns: Best within the opening hours
Most car rental companies suggest that you can drop off the car outside of office hours. For the key and the papers then a mailbox is available. However, expert Bechtel advises against this solution. It is better to be acknowledged personally by an employee that no damage has been caused to the rental car. If that is not possible: take photos of the car anyway. So you can not be charged with any scratches and bumps that are not yours.
