Potatoes, cooking oil and salt: that's all it takes to make chips - actually. For what mixes the fast food giant McDonald's under his fries, has much more to do with a test laboratory, rather than with crispy-crispy fried potato pencils.

Tertiary butyl hydroquinone, polydimethylsiloxane and disodium hydrogen phosphate - the ingredient list of French fries is long. Altogether there are 12 additives that 'refine' the fries of McDonald's . The frightening thing is that every single one of the additives is allowed in Germany, but in many cases it has alarming side effects in an elevated dose.

Additive number one: Tertiary butylhydroquinone. An antioxidant that is used in the United States, among other things for the production of biodiesel . The silicone polydimethylsiloxane is used for safety reasons, according to McDonald's. It should protect against the foaming of boiling frying oil. In fact, it also protects against STDs and unwanted offspring: polydimethylsiloxane is also used for lubricating condoms and as an ingredient of medicines . Another ingredient of the fries: dextrose . It gives the potato pencils their bright yellow color. Enjoyed in (too) high dose dextrose can lead to allergic reactions and osteoporosis .

French fries are not only full of tons of additives but also full of fats. They are pre-fried, flash-frozen and deep-fried again. And finally, with 510 kcal per serving (large), they really hit the mark. A healthy diet looks different. But for this problem McDonald's already has a solution ready.
