Life has changed completely - especially for his partner.

Only one year he is now in office - but since then nothing is in her life as it once was. And there are some who believe the relationship has already suffered. Daniela Schadt had already expressed hesitant concerns shortly after Joachim Gauck's election as head of state in March 2012: "I hope that we will have enough time for ourselves."
And it is probably her now, who always, if the tight schedule allows it, trying to organize small escapes, time-outs for himself and the president. It's like a desperate struggle for endangered happiness .
One thing is certain: Daniela Schadt is the one who had to make the biggest sacrifices. The likeable woman, who loves wearing jeans and a sweater and loves cycling, now has to submit to the strict government protocol.
Much more serious: The enthusiastic journalist gave up her job. Joachim Gauck said: "Daniela is an adult, politician-driven woman, who realizes that as a partner of the Federal President, she can no longer work as head of domestic affairs in her newspaper."
Nevertheless - the longing for the former life remains. Our First Lady: "I miss the wonderful discussions in the editorial board of the Nürnberger Zeitung." She misses her colleagues. The move from Nuremberg to Berlin was not easy for her either: "I lived there for 26 years." Although she appreciates Berlin, she adds - but that does not sound really convincing.
As a First Lady, she must maintain her posture, never complain. Only softly sounds how difficult it is for her to submit to the office. Walking through the weekly market, shopping - that was once. Now, above all, they lead a public life, surrounded by security people. Only little time for two. It is her most serious test.
