Every fifth request is rejected

Whether stroke or complicated fracture - many illnesses require rehab or cure . But current statistics show that almost every fifth application is rejected! We tell you what you need to know and pay attention to.

What is the difference between treatment and rehab?

A cure is more of a preventive nature; it is about preventing a threatening disease. Rehabilitation is provided to cure or alleviate an existing condition. The goal is to prevent retirement from working life.

How is a rehab requested?

Talk to your GP or specialist about what measures would be best from a medical point of view. The doctor completes the application form. The principle applies: outpatient in front of inpatient. This means that inpatient cures (including accommodation, meals) are only possible if all outpatient therapies have been exhausted.

To whom do I send the application?

For employed persons, pension insurance is usually the right contact, for children and adolescents, non-working adults and pensioners the statutory health insurance. Information: www.reha-servicestellen.de .

What can I do to ensure that the application is dealt with quickly?

Instruct the doctor to emphasize the urgency. Important: Since February, the service providers are usually obliged to decide on the application within three weeks.

How long does a rehab take?

As a rule, three weeks. For medical reasons, a longer duration may be granted.

How often can I apply for a cure or rehab?

For medical need every four years. Outpatient preventive cures can even be applied for after three years. Important: In individual cases, such as after a cancer operation, shorter intervals are possible.

Do I have to make additional payments?

Adults must pay an additional 10 euros per day for almost all of these measures.

Can I choose the rehab clinic myself?

In the case of an outpatient treatment plan, you will seek out the spa facility together with your doctor. In a rehab, the health insurance or the pension insurance selects the appropriate institution. You can also express wishes.

What can I do if my application is rejected?

You can object to this within four weeks. It may be helpful to contact a counseling center about this, eg. For example, the Independent Patient Counseling Service (free consultation hotline: 0800/0 11 77 22). Also, the opinion of a second doctor can help. If the opposition is again rejected, only one action remains before the Social Court.
