Column: Parents as Memory Chips?

No, parents are only human.

Nowadays, hardly anyone has to remember something themselves.

Birthdays and dentist appointments are in the organizer. The computer stores data and facts. The rest has to be kept in mind. Or the parents.

Because children, of course, use the modern memory stores, they think the whole world is like that. I think they think parents are a kind of memory chip on two legs that you can cuddle with.

"Dad, can you remind me that ..." they start their orders.

Take a gym bag, return a loan book, buy a Ü-Ei, go to the appointment in good time, do arithmetic, inflate your bike and whatever else is on your mind.

Now you might think that there is enough room in the parent memory for small memory tasks, because the computer also decreases enough for them. Only with three children, two working lives and the rest of everyday life are there a lot of things to keep in mind. Something is already getting mixed up.

Then lies in the gym bag the loan book, which we have been looking for weeks and costs many times its value to penalty. The dentist waits in vain for the patient. For the classmate gets a birthday visit, which is only in two weeks. At the latest then the children notice that parents are only human. No chips.
