The German Television Award is expected to return to the TV screen next year as a great Saturday night show. The 21st ceremony will be broadcast live on 6 June 2020 at 20.15 clock by RTL from Cologne, said the secretariat of the award on Tuesday in Cologne. As lead station, RTL is reissuing the award. In recent years, the gala had rather led a shadowy existence.

As formerly the show should take place again in the Cologne Coloneum, a studio center in the less glamorous district Ossendorf. However, a spokeswoman stressed that the concept will be completely new. The award ceremony will become a "great dynamic, emotionally charged staging" and as such will not be comparable to previous events. More details will be announced by RTL in due course. The German Television Prize has been awarded by the major TV providers since 1999 - founders are the directors and managing directors of ARD, ZDF, RTL and Sat.1.
