In France, vaccination is a matter of course . Unlike in Germany, parents here have their children vaccinated against tetanus, diphtheria and polio. Otherwise they face fines and imprisonment.

In Germany too, the debate about a possible vaccination obligation has come up. In view of the measles wave in Berlin, Federal Minister of Health Hermann Gröhe calls for Germany-wide vaccination: "Who denies his child vaccination, not only endangers the own child, but also others - this can lead to serious damage to health." In France, it has long been a duty to have his children vaccinated. Without a vaccine for tetanus, diphtheria and polio, children will not be admitted to schools or kindergartens. Moreover, parents who refuse to have their children vaccinated must expect a fine of up to € 30, 000 or a two-year prison sentence.

At the beginning of the year, a couple from Auxerre had filed a lawsuit against vaccination in France . The reason: Marc and Samia Larère did not have their three- and two-year-old children vaccinated and were then charged. They do not want to take their 'right to health', according to media reports. The application: rejected.

The Constitutional Council in Paris ruled last Friday that the 'right to health' included protecting citizens from serious and infectious diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus and polio . The criminal case against the couple Larère is resumed. Whether they are punished with a prison sentence or fine remains to be seen. And how it goes with the vaccination in Germany also.
