Birth photography of a special kind
A baby in the fetal position can be seen otherwise only by ultrasound. Photographer Merry Fermont lets such wonderful pictures emerge right after birth.
As soon as the baby is born, many a mother asks herself how this beautiful creature fit into her own body seconds before. The newborn is tiny, but already much larger than the baby bump it was just yet? Merry Fermont is a photographer from Holland, who has made it a profession to solve this puzzle. She lets parents feel how her baby looked just a short while ago in the fetal position and thus creates wonderful pictures, which one usually only gets to see via ultrasound.

The birth is a very special moment for the family. So she will be remembered forever, despite the excitement, Merry Fermont is close at hand. The photographer - who used to work as a midwife herself - can observe the situation from a very personal perspective. She knows exactly what's going on in a childbirth, knows exactly when she's going to have to take a shot to take the very special picture. This is how the first picture of her special kind of birth photography emerged. During her first photo shoot during the birth she holds a magical moment. The midwife just shows the newly-baked parent how her baby lay in the fetal position seconds before . That's where Merry expresses Fermont.

Since then, this moment is part of every birth photography. The photographer manages to photograph the newborn in a way that can only be admired on the ultrasound and lets the parents feel closely what journey their baby has been through in recent months.
