Nobody knows how much time you have left
A year ago, 19-year-old Lauren Hill contracted cancer. Now she has only little time left. Your last wish: Play basketball again.
Normally, the basketball season of American colleges and universities does not start until mid-November. But this year, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCA) made an exception and relocated its first league game by two weeks. That's the only way a young player can be allowed to be actively on a basketball court for the very last time.
It's been a year since 19-year-old Lauren Hill received her frightening diagnosis: cancer. The young woman was fighting the tumor that was growing in her brain, but neither chemotherapy nor medication could help. Surgery was not an option from the beginning because the cancer had already spread in her brain. Now nobody can tell the enthusiastic basketball player how much time she has left. Lauren's strength is moving: "I did not give up for a second, not even when I was told my diagnosis was final."
Lauren's illness makes her more and more difficult. It robs her of energy and also affects her perception. But the young woman does not want to miss her first and possibly last time on the basketball court of Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio, USA) and play with her teammates. But as it is not clear if offspring Lauren will stay for months or even weeks, she needed the support of the NCCA to fulfill her dream of a recent basketball game .
The first league game was officially brought forward to November 2 to fulfill Lauren's last wish. Hopefully, the 19-year-old will be in the field together with all her teammates this coming Saturday. The game will take place in a larger stadium, as the rush to the tickets was just too big. Lauren Hill touches the whole world with her strength and courage.
