Community as a stop

Her mother has cancer. The young filmmaker would not have thought that gaming could work as therapy, so she starts the project WoW MoM ...

It's been four years since Terry Bolt was told she has six months to live. In 2010, the cheerful wife and mother got the diagnosis of cancer . Neuroendocrine tumors had formed in her body, an extremely rare form of cancer that also affected Steve Jobs. At her side is always her daughter Andie Bolt, a young filmmaker and comedian.

After the tumors are surgically removed, Terry begins the period of uncertainty. It is the wait phase when she first comes into contact with the game World of Warcraft. Mother and daughter had already been heard by many people who compensate for their heavy fate with gaming.

So TerryBolt began to immerse himself in the fantasy world of WoW. Soon, the brave woman realizes that the colors and landscapes may not be more unrealistic, but the characters are all the more real. She finds friends in the community.

Gaming offers many people the opportunity to escape their problems for a moment and slip into another world. During the game they can slip into another role and reinvent themselves. At WoW, you suddenly meet other people with different destinies; it's up to you to share them or keep them to yourself. But once the problems are shared, it's the community that gives many players support and hope - as Terry Bolt does today.

Her daughter has been watching the effects of online gaming. Her mother has found a way to deal with cancer with WoW. The game helps her. Fascinated Andie Bolt decides to turn the story into a movie.

With her documentary WoW MoM, Andie wants to present the surprisingly positive influences of online gaming - while at the same time drawing attention to the disease NET (neuroendocrine tumors). Visual material is sufficient, for years Andie has been filming moments with her mother and preparing for the documentary. The shoot is complete, now the money for the cut is missing. For this reason, the young filmmaker starts a crowdfunding campaign in which she tells the story of her mother. Already over one hundred people have donated.
