It's so easy: candles with silicone print

To give or to keep

Candlelight always radiates a very special atmosphere. You do not always have to buy the candles, you can do them yourself.

You need this for the candles:

  • Forming compound "Formaform" (impression material, www.opitec.com)
  • Bucket (about 5 liters)
  • skewers
  • Water glass with structure (eg "Mont Fleuri", www.butlers.de)
  • Release wax (craft shop)
  • Plastic container as casting mold (slightly elastic / lightly pressed in)
  • Adhesive tape (strong)
  • Beeswax granules (www.idee-shop.com)
  • Candle wick (craft shop)
  • brush
  • Saucepan and plastic container for the water bath for wax
  • kitchenknife

And that's how easy it is:

1. Melt mold "Formaform" in the bucket according to the manufacturer's instructions in a water bath (approx. 60 degrees). The water should not cook. Stir occasionally with a shish kebab. Duration approx. 30 minutes.

2. Brush a water glass with structure (or another object to be molded) with a brush using a release wax. The mold, in which the water glass is placed, also spread from the inside with release wax.

3. Place the structured water glass in the mold for pouring, making sure that the bottom of the water glass does not touch the bottom of the mold into which it is placed. The water glass must be free all around, so it must not touch the walls and floor of the container in which it is standing. Wrap the glass rim with adhesive tape and fix it under tension with the edge of the casting mold. The casting mold should be made of plastic, but can be easily pressed, for later dissolving the rubber mold.

4. Pour the liquid "Formaform" mass around the glass of water into the container and let it dry for several hours. After drying, carefully remove the glass from the hardened "Formaform" compound and remove the mass from the casting mold.

5. Melt the wax granules in a plastic container in a water bath (about 60 degrees). Do not boil water. Stir now and then with the shish kebab.

6. Knot candle wick to a shish kebab and center over the edge of the finished mold.

7. Fill the molten wax into the rubber mold and allow to harden.

8. After drying, cut the rubber compound with a kitchen knife and remove from the wax. The mass can be melted again in a water bath and used for other objects.
