Are your walls due again? Then go to paint, brush and roll! We have the best painting tips for you

Well prepared paint walls! A few preparatory work must be ...

... then the stroking is much easier, and the result will be great!

Covering To make it easy for you to paint your walls, lay out a plastic tarpaulin for protection, which you attach seamlessly to the skirting boards.

Masking To get clean edges and edges, mask off adjacent surfaces, switches and strips with masking tape. It can be removed without residue.

Cleaning Wipe off superficial dirt with a slightly damp cloth, remove small mold and mildew with vinegar water and sponge.

Balancing Scrape cracks with a spatula, brush out areas cleanly. Then moisten and fill with putty.

Wash off old paint, which does not adhere well, paint in front of the walls with water to wash off. It is better to remove thick layers of wallpaper completely, so that the walls remain breathable.

Priming An optimal pre-treatment offers so-called Tiefgrund. It attaches sanding plaster and gives the surface a uniform absorbency.

The multiplication table of the wall color

Dispersion paint General term for water-based wall paints. They are smooth and evenly applied, cover well, barely smell and dry quickly

Tinting color This allows white emulsion paints to be colored in the desired tones

Solid color It has a firm consistency, splashes and therefore hardly drips and covers particularly well. Ideal for the ceiling

Latex paint Is particularly suitable for heavily used surfaces, is water-repellent, abrasion-resistant and very hard-wearing

Natural colors These include: lime coatings, ideal in damp rooms, as mold inhibiting. They give a nice cloudy matt surface. Caseinfarben. The binder used is casein. Are available as a powder and still have to be mixed.

Clay color contains colored clay and often also vegetable substances as a colorant. Typical: their fine-rough structure.

Special colors For example, anti-mold color, can be used preventively in damp rooms to prevent fungal infestation. Or shielding paint, which due to a special composition can dampen electromagnetic fields.

Structure colors They are enriched with quartz sand or small globules that lay structures on the wall when painted. This group also includes liquid woodchip and plaster.

Wall glazes A transparent coating with subtle colors . Forms a thin, barely visible layer on the wall paint.

Paint the choice of tools to walls

Roller and brush are the main helpers in painting walls. Basically: Choose the easiest possible role, so that you do not get too heavy when painting your arm. A long handle facilitates work on the upper parts. The smoother the surface, the shorter the pile of the roll should be. Long pile rollers are ideal for rough, uneven surfaces.

Brushes demand quality . This can be recognized by dense, long and tapered bristles, which absorb and distribute the paint well. A metal ring that holds the bristles together prevents annoying "hair loss". Important: Wash the roller and brush well before using for the first time.

Looked at the label

Wall paints can contain many questionable ingredients. If a product carries the " Blue Angel ", it ensures that the potential health risks are kept to a minimum. Also pay attention to the standard EN 13 300, from which the quality of a product can be read:

Class 5 stands for the lowest quality and Class 1 for the highest quality.

Extra tip: Paint games of paint on the walls

With painted rectangles you can spice up walls. To make the edges clean, draw the outlines first with a pencil and spirit level. Mask exactly along the lines with painter's tape, then you can start. For such well-rounded surfaces, it is recommended to use a small roll. After drying, remove the masking tape, done.

Paint walls like the pros

First the blanket So that nothing drips on the finished walls, you start with the ceiling, above the window. Brush along the edges of the ceilings with a small brush. Then work with the big roll away from the light in wide lanes

Tricky games just paint the corners, edges, and the smaller areas around the switches, frames, and skirting boards so that the paint does not dry before you start with the large areas. This way you avoid visible approaches. Using a flat brush or a small roller, start stroking the seams from the top. B. from wall to ceiling, on corner corners, door and window frames. Editor's tip: If you are using two colors, keep a cardboard box at the seam to cover when painting

And now paint the walls Edit the large areas in batches in large strips, which you gradually fill with color. So work wet in wet and avoid approaches. At first, paint the paint irregularly across the wall. For a consistent appearance, pull the scooter at the end in straight, overlapping tracks perpendicular to the surface.

Plaster from the roll

Bring vibrant structures to your four walls - and do it yourself with ease: a ready-to-use decorative plaster makes it possible. He comes finished in the bucket therefore. And if you like it colorful, you can add pigments to get the color you want

Extra tip: get away with the old wallpapers ! A few times with the role back and forth, and the pattern has disappeared: first you roll up a barrier, then comes ready-made plaster - that's it.

All a question of optics ...

... used purposefully, makes color amazing deception maneuvers possible

Low Rooms If you make the ceiling brighter than the walls, the room looks higher. The same effect can be achieved by vertical stripes on a wall.

High ceilings If the ceiling (and possibly the upper part of the walls up to a maximum of 10 cm) is painted in a darker shade, the ceiling is visually lowered.

Short roof slopes If you paint them in the color of the ceiling, they integrate harmoniously into the room and no longer appear as a disturbing factor for the eye.

Large bevels Brush the bevels in the same tone as the walls, and they will not look so overwhelming. The rooms optically gain in height.

Template Arts

Patterns on the wall are very topical. Great malting talent is not necessary, with the help of a stencil it's easy. You can easily cut them yourself: make a paper template in pencil, transfer to solid foil or cardboard and cut out the pattern with a cutter. Fix the stencil on the wall and paint with a small roller and - very importantly - little paint over it.
