Questions to family doctor Dr. med. Petra Bracht

The general practitioner and Naturopath has a private practice in Bad Homburg. Here she will advise you.

SLEEP DISORDER: REMOVE ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT FROM THE BEDROOM!

Sometimes I need more than an hour in the evening until I can fall asleep. What can I do?

Joy L. (54), Pyrmont

    Reply from Dr. Bracht:

Sleep disorders can have many causes: stress in the family, pressure in the workplace, unhealthy sleeping. The latter plays a bigger role than we think. Because our body shuts down at night, we are more prone to external influences resulting from the position of our sleeping place. Health-impairing influences of electro-magnetic fields lead to sleep disorders . Give it a try: Remove any 220 volt devices, such as clock radios, music systems, heating pads, televisions, lights, and computers near your bed. Even mobile phone and charger are not in the bedroom. Alternatively, you can also switch off the fuse of your bedroom or have the electrician install a mains circuit breaker. Sometimes these few measures work wonders in the fight against sleep disorders .

CONSTRUCTION: AYURVEDIC HERBS RAIN THE DARMITY AGAIN

For many years I suffer from chronic constipation and flatulence. Now I have heard that Ayurveda should help very well with indigestion. Is that true?

      Annette D. (49), Cologne

        Reply from Dr. Bracht:

That's right, because this ancient Indian healing art knows what a stressed digestive tract needs in order to come to rest again. Try the following tips: Start the day with a warm ginger water in the morning. Only eat if you are really hungry. Allow at least three hours between meals. The main meal at noon should consist of cooked, easily digestible foods with some ghee (purified butter, clarified butter). But do not eat completely full. Use herbs and spices (turmeric, fenugreek and cumin). These help digestion in their work.

WEIGHT LOSS: IT MAY BE THE THYROID

I've lost a lot in the past few months. I did not do a diet. What else can be the reason?

          Annegret M. (51), Neu-Isenburg

            Reply from Dr. Bracht:

Losing weight can have many reasons. For example, an overactive thyroid may be present. The iodine-containing thyroid hormones play an important role in energy metabolism and growth. If the hormones thyroxine and tri-iodothyronine are too high in concentration, the basal metabolic rate is increased. The result: They are always hungry, eat a lot, but do not close, but rather from. Unrecognized diabetes mellitus can also be the cause of weight loss. Then you have strong thirst, drinking up to seven liters daily. However, a chronic illness or unrecognized depression should also be excluded. Be sure to have a doctor check you to determine the cause of the unwanted weight loss.

            YOUR RIGHT AS A PATIENT

What does the cashier pay? When am I entitled to compensation? Good, if you know his right

            DOCTOR MUST REFUSE ABOUT DATA

Recently, for the first time, I was a patient in a group practice. All the doors stood open, the medical assistants loudly talking about findings from patients. Is that allowed?

              Birgit R., Kusel

No, that is not possible. According to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, a patient has the right to have his findings and data treated confidentially by the doctor and the hospital. The health status of a patient may only be disclosed to other persons if he expressly agrees.

                INSIGHT PUBLISHED IN DOCUMENTS

My mother wanted a copy of the lab results from her family doctor. He denied it. Is he allowed to do that?

                  Alexandra K., Offenbach

As a patient, you may consult medical reports, protocols and test results and request a copy. Exception: subjective ratings, psychiatric and psychotherapeutic documents. Also, X-rays are often left to the patient, as this has anyway a publication requirement in evidence of interest.

                    DENTIST MUST EXPLANATE RISKS

My dentist has done a root canal treatment. But I had no idea of the possible consequences of this intervention. Am I legally protected if something should happen? Doris H., Monzingen

The dentist needs to educate each patient about the potential risks of treatment, even over rare ones. By signing, the patient confirms that this information has been obtained and gives his consent that the doctor may perform the procedure.
