Can we use WhatsApp to send documents and make video calls soon?
Testers of the new WhatsApp version are finding more and more hidden clues about planned new functions of the messenger service. There seems to be something in planning ...
We recently reported that selected people are currently allowed to test the new WhatsApp version. These people are finding more and more clues in the programming code of the app for new, planned functions of the messenger service, which are apparently currently in preparation. We reported from the first hints that WhatsApp and Facebook might "grow together", but more and more new features are coming out:
Is there video calling on WhatsApp soon?
With WhatsApp phone calls can be longer. In the code of the app it can be seen that this will soon be synonymous with video - as with Skype or FaceTime. Unfortunately there is no official announcement of WhatsApp yet, but there are already the first real-looking screenshots in circulation.
Can we send documents with WhatsApp soon?
Instead of creating pictures, videos and sound recordings, you can soon also send documents: PDFs, Word files, Powerpoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.
The Reddit user CarbonoAtom published screenshots from the icon folder of the WhatsApp beta version. Among other things, he found icons that indicate the shipping of documents:

The function is not there yet, but the icons are already there is a hint that it is planned.
Will WhatsApp be safer soon?
For security and privacy reasons, more and more WhatsApp users are switching to the paid WhatsApp alternative Threema. Supposedly, there are indications that WhatsApp now wants to take an example of Threema and become more secure: Apparently WhatsApp plans a so-called end-to-end encryption, which is to guarantee that a sent message is really only read by the desired recipient. Users then have to confirm their identity by QR code or number code.
All these new features are unlikely to be with the next WhatsApp update on our smartphones. It looks more like they will be tested on and released over the next few months.
