who knows whom: instructions to secure data

Social networks

The social network " who knows whom " ( wkw ) will cease its operations on 1 June 2014. The page will disappear from the net , all data of the remaining users will be deleted . Here we explain how the data such as mails and photos can be saved until then.

News, contacts, photos - this is some of the data that users of the "Who knows who" network will be unable to access in June. These data are deleted when the network is switched off. Here we explain how the data can be backed up in good time.

To save data, "who knows whom" provides a special export function. This can be found under the settings. With this export function, the following contents can be downloaded to your own computer: contacts, messages, photo albums and photos that have been uploaded in groups.

The export can be started under the menu item Settings. After a successful backup, the user receives an e-mail informing them that the data is available for download via .zip file. Since the data is collected by different servers, it can take up to several hours for the data to be downloaded.

If the data is available on the export page, the "Save photo albums and contacts" button changes to "Download now". With a button on the button, a window opens, with which the .zip file can be stored on the computer.

Once the archive has been downloaded, it can be extracted by right-clicking. The location on the computer can be selected. The individual photo albums in this folder are each also an extra .zip file, which must be extracted again individually.

Here the direct link to the export function: http://www.wer-kennt-wen.de/settings/export .
