Always healthy, in good shape and no weight problems. If there was a pill that could do it, everyone would swallow it immediately. Since this miracle drug does not exist, it is therefore necessary to look for alternatives. And with water aerobics, there are these actually today. Around four million people practice in Germany - and there should be much more. Water aerobics is one of the healthiest sports ever. The buoyancy of the water provides the pleasant feeling of weightlessness, the body weight is reduced by up to 90 percent. This spares tendons and ligaments and allows even overweight an optimal fitness program.

In addition, the wet physical exercises tumble excess pounds. Compared to walking, the energy consumption of aqua gymnastics is about five times higher. Because unlike the movement on land, about 80 percent of the approximately 650 muscles of the human body are used in the water. Depending on the amount of energy used up to 1000 calories per hour are consumed.

Of particular importance is also the so-called hydrostatic pressure that the water exerts on the body. This compresses the vessels so that more blood is led to the heart . The stroke volume increases by up to 20 percent, the heart rate drops, and this helps the fist-sized muscle to save oxygen. The hydrostatic pressure is also an effective vascular training. Because the air bubbles flowing past during the movement and the resulting vortex promote the circulation of the skin, muscles and connective tissue .

Equally positive is the pressure on breathing . The water rests on the chest and abdomen and facilitates the exhalation. Inhaling, on the other hand, is harder because the muscles need to work harder to stretch the ribcage. This strengthens the respiratory muscles.

Those who regularly go into the refreshing wet and move sufficiently intensively, can count on many positive effects: improved oxygen intake, lower blood pressure, stronger heart and skeletal muscles, activation of energy metabolism, powerful immune system, increasing blood supply to the muscles (capillarization), low blood sugar levels, Declining LDL cholesterol levels.

Water aerobics is offered in many swimming pools and some fitness centers. The exercises, with or without equipment, are easy to understand because they are similar to those on land. If you have not done any sports for a long time, you should first have a doctor check you out. Ideal are two, better even three units per week.
