Why do we actually get freckles?

Some find them sweet, the others annoying: freckles! But where do freckles come from?

Why do some people have them and some do not?

For many, they only come in the summer when the light tickles them: freckles. Especially in fair-skinned people with blond or red hair then multiply the happy spots.

The reason for the pigmentation, ie the freckles, is the brown skin pigment melanin, which protects the skin from the sun, especially on the face, on the décolleté and the hands. But not only the sun, hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause) can boost melanin production.

The skin does not react to even sunlight with a uniform tan. Some pigment-forming cells react faster to sun. They turn dark and become freckles, while the surrounding cells do not discolour the skin.

After wrinkles, stains (called "taches" in the French cosmetics industry) are the second biggest skin problem for women. There are several ways to fight this:

Wegbleichen? "The active ingredients contained in special creams have only a discrete effect, they brighten up the spots, " says Dr. med. Kathi Turnbull, Dermatologist Hamburg dermatologist.

Laser? On the other hand, individual pigment spots can be quickly and completely eliminated by the dermatologist with a laser. In this therapy (cost about 150 to 250 euros), the pigment in the cell is removed (burned). The small wound heals after three days.

Peelings? Even with fruit or acetic acids, the dermatologist can "macerate" the pigments. "The scrubs are applied throughout the face, " explains Dr. Turnbull. Cost: acetic peeling about 500 euros, fruit acid from 50 euros per application. Nice side effect: It is equal to the whole face "smoothed".

But we think: Leave your freckles where they are! They are beautiful and give every face the "certain something"!
