The gym lurks a lot of germs that can make you sick

As the days get shorter and it gets colder, we move our sports program from the outside to the inside. But the winter time is also cold and there are many germs in the gym. How can you protect yourself from infection?

The many people and the warm, sweaty air in the gym are reasons why germs like to stay in gyms and multiply. So that you not only keep fit but also healthy, you should pay attention to the following tips:

1. Build barriers

Build barriers between you and the sports equipment: Put an old towel on your gym mat and wear flip-flops on showers and on the way to the pool. So you prevent contact with pathogenic germs.

2. Learn how to wash your hands properly

This tip may sound obvious, but proper hand washing is really important. It should take at least 20 to 30 seconds for all germs to be killed. Do not forget to soak in your fingers.

3. Do not kiss the faucet!

There are certainly one or the other in your gym that you would like to kiss. But you better not smooch the faucet! To keep the germs away from your bottle, keep your bottle away from the tap when you fill it.

4. Invest in the right towel

Germs love it warm and humid and that's why they feel especially comfortable in our towels. You should therefore wash your towel regularly. You can also get an antibacterial towel made of microfibre, which dries faster and is therefore uncomfortable for the germs.

5. Wash your hands before you go swimming

The water in the pool probably contains enough chlorine to kill all germs. Nevertheless, you should wash your hands after a toilet, even if you then climb into the pool. You're going to be handling a lot of things on your way to the pool, like your mouth or your cell phone. But the germs should not land there better.

6. Avoid the exercise program if you have a hangover

If you have a hangover, you should postpone your sports program. The germs will make it easier to sick you because your body is weakened. Instead, you should stay home and drink plenty of water.

7. You lie down on the sofa immediately after sport? Bad idea.

When you come out of the gym, you'll want to sit on the couch and rest. But then celebrate the germs in your sports bag a party! So, when you get home, wash your sportswear first and wipe your sports bag with antibacterial wipes. So you can start athletic the next day, without getting sick.
