We regularly find funny pictures and emotional videos on the World Wide Web! Today: The distorted perception of domestic violence.
The danger of physical assault does not lurk in dark forest or unlighted dead ends. The danger lurks in your own home . Women are beaten, kicked and shoved by their husbands. An image that fools in most minds. The perpetrator, victim roles - automatically distributed. A fallacy, as this video shows.
The dispute of a young couple moves the public. So, as long as the distribution of roles is clearly defined. The man approaches his wife, shouts at her and pushes her around. The reaction of the observers clearly. They intervene in the situation, rushing the woman to help. The sequence is rewound, the roles are exchanged. The woman goes for her husband, pushes him against a garden fence and bellows loudly. The frightening: not one reacts. Nobody stands between the conflict. And no one rushes to help the man. Here and there people grin maliciously in the background and seem to enjoy themselves about the argument.
Men as victims - a taboo topic
The ManKind Initiative experiment raises a question: why are physical assaults on men taken less seriously than on women? Not infrequently, many people associate associations such as weakness and shame.
It is still a taboo topic. If men become victims of domestic violence, it is hardly talked about. In the public perception this topic hardly ever occurs . Too big is the shame of the male victims. And they feel too hurt in their masculinity.
It is not uncommon for domestic violence to exceed the limits of minor personal injury. The bodies of the victims are often littered with bruises and burns. A recent study by the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin shows that almost as many men as women are affected by domestic violence. Ascending trend. A thing of impossibility. Woman and men image or not.
